It’s that time of year again and Autodesk has released their mid-cycle update to Revit. We should get used to this new release cycle in that Autodesk has told us that this is how they are rolling out new features for the foreseeable future.
Speaking of the roll out it appears that they are exclusively using the Application Manager to update to R2 in that I haven’t seen a R2 download anywhere in our Autodesk Account. If you need instruction on using the Application Manager here you go.
Below is the full list of new features with links to the Autodesk YouTube Channel. Here are my big 3 so far:
- Draw Visible Elements Only– WOW, just try it for yourself. Very responsive to any visibility changes.
- Per User RVT Load/Unload – No more tug of wars over linked files on Workshared project.
- Family Elements Visibility Settings – Knowing what you have is what you are getting in the project. Great new feature.
The full list of new features:
The Global Parameters feature in Revit 2016 R2 enables you to drive dimension and element instance parameters with project-wide parameters. With Revit 2016 R2 you can create a global parameter to measure dimensions and calculate formulas to drive dimensions and parameter values in other elements in the project.
Family Element Visibility Setting
The Family Element Visibility Preview feature helps you to see your design intent by filtering out geometries that are not viewed, and making only the geometry that will be loaded into the project visible.
We continue to improve energy analysis tools in Revit and are providing improved automatic thermal zoning in the Revit 2016 R2 release. In some cases this will improve the accuracy of the energy analytical model.
Enhanced Revit Links
A new positioning option, Auto – Project Base Point to Project Base Point, is available when inserting Revit links.
View Filter UI Improvements
Filters are listed alphabetically and sorted in a tree structure with heading for Rule-based and Selection-based filters.
Additional information is available for revisions to make it easier for you to see exactly how the revision number will be generated, and to select revisions to include in a revision schedule.
Isolate Solids Voids with Filter Tool
This feature allows the use of the filter tool to separate solids from voids by separating them into two different items in the filter list.
Per User RVT Unload
This option enables you to keep RVT links unloaded for portions of the model they are not working on, increasing performance and improving memory usage, without affecting other project team members.
Improved Project Browser
Scroll bar in the Project Browser remembers its location.
Named Reference Plane
You can name reference planes by clicking directly in-canvas, using a new text editor to name reference planes.
Select from custom settings that allow you to render by Level, Time or Until Satisfactory.
Preview view new or existing railing type shapes
View Underlay and Orientation Improvements
Quickly open and identify the sheet on which a view is placed.
Choice to Select Wall Join Type during Wall Creation
Choose whether to allow or disallow Wall Joins while creating walls.
Fabrication Part Modeling Enhancement
Revit 2016 R2 features enhancements to fabrication part modeling for both duct and pipe.
Electrical Design Enhancements
In Revit 2016 R2 you can now define the default rating for newly created circuits, allowing you to tailor your project template to regional requirements. Another electrical design enhancement helps you when there are only two options for the Default Distribution System on a panel.
Mechanical Design Enhancements
In Revit 2016 R2 with Background Processing of Color Fill, color schemes and the associated color fills, are updated asynchronously, alleviating model interaction delays, associated with these computations like when adding duct/pipe.
Draw Visible Elements Only
To help improve productivity, Revit 2016 R2 now will only draw elements that are visible. It enables you to regenerate views more quickly during navigation while orbiting, panning or zooming.
