Installing a Package in Dynamo for Revit

If you have downloaded a Dynamo script from someone else, it is likely that it is using an external package. Sometimes these appear as broken nodes. Ideally, the script author will have clearly noted which package is needed. In this case it is necessary to download an external package. Even if you are starting from scratch and you see that you can’t find a node that does what you want, you may end up finding a custom node from an external package that can help you. Packages are contributed by users and developers in the Dynamo community and offer great value to the industry. The following video and instructions outline how to install an external package in Dynamo.

  1. Start Dynamo
  2. In the menu, select Packages -> Search for a Package
  3. Wait until a new window loads, and packages are listed. You need to have access to the internet.
  4. Search or browse for an external package.
  5. Click on a package to expand details like versions and description.
  6. Use the download arrow on the left to download the latest version of the package.
  7. You will see an installed box at the bottom of the window once you have successfully installed a package.
  8. You should now see a new heading or be able to search for nodes contained within that package.
  9. Go back to the menu: Packages -> Manage Packages
  10. You will see a new window with a list of what you have installed,. You are able to uninstall, view content (nodes contained) or root directory which will open the installed directory. Sometimes, authors will include sample definitions that can be used to illustrate practical applications. The window will also have a link to the Package Manager website at the bottom left.
  11. One thing to keep in mind is that it is recommended that you are running a compatible version of Dynamo. Some authors have different packages that are compatible with different versions of Dynamo.
