Ecotect Analysis and MacDonald’s

Downtown Las Vegas as seen from the Stratosphe...Image via WikipediaI recently came across a student project that outlines a proposed expansion to a MacDonald’s in Las Vegas using Autodesk Ecotect Analysis. Never thought I’d see those two words together!

The three page graphic display essentially describes a workflow for using the software to inform design. It begins with gaining a good understanding of the site and evolves into quantifying the influence that the context of neighbouring buildings has on your design. This provides opportunities for harvesting the “free” energy and giving the designer feedback that is well rooted in analysis.
