Autodesk Seek has a new addin for Revit at the App Exchange. It represents a valuable upgrade from the traditional built-in search box in Revit that kicks you out into a website so you can download manufacturer-specific content for Revit (after you log in). The Autodesk Seek addin allows you to more easily search, download and load family content into a project without ever having to leave Revit. The addin currently only supports Revit 2015 and 2016.
As convenient as it may be, in our experience, families require a careful administration and vetting process. Manufacturer content is often overmodeled, can contain extraneous materials as well as many parameters that may or may not bring value to your BIM process. Nevertheless the tool simplifies loading necessary content in a friendlier environment than navigating through the out of the box family libraries or going to an external website. You can set the location to download families and then simply load them into your project with a few clicks.
To see it in action be sure to attend our next BIMbc Vancouver meeting.
